Sensitizing judicial and enforcement agencies


WCN conducted a sensitization program to the judicial and enforcement agencies of Kanchanpur District. Representatives from District Court, Governmental lawyers and private lawyers, District forest office, Chief District Office, Nepal Ex-police association, Nepal Police and Nepal Armed Police participated in the program.Participants were sensitized in criminal justice system and quasi-judicial component, actors and civil society related to forest, environment and wildlife crime .

Three Day Workshop for the Women Group of Dibyanagar VDC, Chitwan


WCN conducted three days workshop for the women of Simara Gaon, ' Dibyanagar VDC near Chitwan National Park in Kathmandu with the objective to strengthen the effort of women’s group in conservation. The workshop was focused mainly in enhancing the capacities and well being of women in order to sustain their livelihood  that can lead to real income generation and self sufficiency and reduce their dependency on naural resources.During the workshop, the women’s group visited different historical and cultural places of Kathmandu valley like Central Zoo, Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath temple, Swoyambhunath temple. Beside which the women also learnt about pond aquaculture in the fisheries centre at Balaju. Pond aquaculture can be taken as an alternative source of livelihood strategies in order to generate income to deal with their crisis of livelihood.Mr. Prasanna Yonzon, CEO, WCN held a small discussion session with the group where issues related with conservation and the role of women in conservaion was highlighted.

Three Day Science Exhibition


Whitefield Academy invited Wildlife Conservation Nepal in their three day Science exhibition. The show was inaugurated by honorable member of constituent assembly Mr. Sovakar Parajuli. WCN had put up 4 experiments from the Nepal 'Prakriti Pathsala Manual: Water cycle, Unique Properties of Water, Photosynthesis and Transpiration. Over 1000 visitors visited WCN stall including parents, students, locals and the students from other schools. The experiments of the students were judged by Associate Prof. Suvaratna Shakya and Madhusudan Man Singh. Along with the exhibition WCN distributed  different booklet and brochures related to wildlife and nature conservation. The highlight of the exhibition was WCN documentaries based on nature and wildlife.


 
Science for Life was the theme of Whitefield’s exhibition and the main aim of WCN participation on was to promote the environment conservation through Science. Learning by doing was what WCN focus to the students as this present day crisis needs a solution that is more pragmatic and life enhancing. We were really overwhelmed by the warmth that Whitefield Academy showed to us and the response from the visitors gave us a new dimension to move forward regarding the conservation theme to the society focusing on the school students.

Collaborative Efforts with Nepal Administrative Staff College for the Protection of Natural Resource



With the beginning of New Year, on January 3, 2010, Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN) collaborated with Nepal Administrative Staff College (NASC), an autonomous institution of Nepal that provides training to the employees of GON and PEs. The program was organized in the premises of NASC to sensitize the high ranking government officials towards protection and conservation of the natural resources of Nepal. WCN has been organizing such seminars to the judicial bodies, media personnel and enforcement agencies to make conservation a major concern to the authorized bodies. This collaboration of WCN with NASC is thought to bring forth conservation issues in the training course of the institution.  

 

Glimpses of the program


Taudaha Jamboree-6


On the occasion of world wetland day WCN organized 6th “Taudaha Jamboree” in the Taudaha, one of the natural lakes of valley. This year World Wetland day was celebrated with the slogan “conservation of wetlands, an answer to the climate change”. In “Taudaha Jamboree” different activities were organized in order to aware local communities and students on the importance of wetlands and need of conserving them to combat climate change. This is a WCN’s initiation to promote Taudaha and its vicinity as a nature hike route and to conserve the entire area in its pristine form. If Taudaha gets proper attention from nature lovers, there is a possibility that the habitat for numerous resident and migratory birds will be preserved.


During this one day program different activities like Poster competition, Bird watching, Clean-up campaign and Different hands on activities developed by WCN/Nature School were conducted.At the end of the program all the participants were provide with certificates and based on the performance one of the team was awarded for best team work and two students were awarded for best presentation and best poster.
