Sensitizing media personnel on Rhino and Tiger conservation

WCN conducted a three day excursion for media personnel to Chitwan National Park to sensitize them on rhino and Tiger conservation issues through hands-on experience from 28 Feb – 1 March, 2008. A team of journalists from different leading media houses of the country like Radio Nepal, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), The Kathmandu Post, Himal Patrika and Times FM participated in Jungle Safari activities that gave them an insight on wild life up-close.

A sensitization seminar on wildlife and different conservation issues was also organized during the field trip. Speaking on the occasion were Mr. Prasanna Yonzon, CEO of WCN and representatives from different conservation agencies like National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), Buffer Zone Management Committee, Tarai Arc Landscape Project (Tal) and Bird Education Society (BES). Various burning issues on conservation of mega vertebrates and their habitat in Chitwan were discussed in depth during the program.

This excursion is a follow-up to the National Workshop that was organized last year by WCN in partnership with Radio Nepal to sensitize media personnel on conservation issues. WCN considers media to be a powerful medium to propel conservation activities to incur positive changes in the conservation scenario. WCN has also established a media task force to address conservation issues effectively in Nepal.
